Help a 68-Year-Old Father Rebuild His Life After Fire

Imagine losing everything you’ve worked for your entire life: the roof over your head, your belongings, your memories, all gone in the blink of an eye. His belongings, personal documents, and cherished possessions were reduced to ash. A fire that left nothing behind but the remnants of a life he had spent decades building.

This is the heartbreaking reality for my Dad, a 68-year-old farmer living in rural Jamaica (Saint Thomas), who was struck by a devastating fire that destroyed his home and everything inside.

One day a few hours after leaving home my dad received a call letting him know that his house was on fire, by the time he returned his home burned down to the ground. The cause of the fire remains unknown, but the impact was all too real. My Dad, a man already facing significant health challenges with no other means of income, thought of rebuilding any resemblance of a life is virtually impossible leaving him no option but to reach out for assistance in regaining his independence. As he is willing and able to work but has lost all of his equipment and tools in the fire.

He has already laid the foundation for a one-bedroom, one-bathroom home with a kitchen, but he needs help with labor and building materials to complete the construction.

In the wake of this catastrophe, My Dads world was turned upside down. Without a home to shelter him, and in his fragile health, he now finds himself without the basic comforts that many of us take for granted. For a man of his age and condition, a stable and safe living environment is not just a need, it is a necessity.

My Dad has spent his life working hard, but over the years, health problems have made it increasingly difficult for him to support himself. With conditions that limit his mobility and energy, he was already struggling to make ends meet before the fire. Now, without a roof over his head, his situation is even more dire.

As his daughter, who lives in the UK, I've been doing everything I can to support him from afar. But as you can imagine, the distance between us makes it hard to provide him with the daily care and attention he needs. I'm doing all I can to raise funds to help my father and reaching out for help on his behalf.
