Hello everyone,
On behalf of everyone who knows and loves Tina, we are reaching out to ask for your urgent support as she fights for her rights and her freedom.
Tina has lived in the Roaring Fork Valley for over 13 years and has deeply rooted herself into our community and our hearts. She has no criminal history, entered this country legally, pays her taxes, and has worked tirelessly to build a life here that she loves. For years, she has made every possible effort to secure her legal status, but she has faced an uphill battle against a deeply flawed systemic process that makes the path to legal residence nearly impossible. Her situation is from no lack of trying and I know it was something that loomed over her every day.
On the morning of Saturday, August 1st, our dear friend Tina was traveling home to Aspen after a trip to Florida to meet with her family members that she has not seen in years. After having such a beautiful trip filled with much needed family time, suddenly her life was turned upside down as she was apprehended by ICE in the Miami airport. She was taken into custody and now sits at ICE holding facility.
Tina is now faced with a massive financial burden and a daunting road ahead. She is very overwhelmed and fearful. Right now, it remains unclear how long she will be detained, and she has critical decisions to make about her future. She has chosen to stay and fight to remain here in the states.
We are asking for a goal of $40,000.
Funds will be sent and appropriately distributed by Mariahs family, who welcomed Tina into their home where they loved and cared for her like family.
All funds raised will go directly toward:
Legal Defense and Representation: An attorney has been retained. Legal representation is of the upmost importance and is absolutely vital. This is the single most important thing we can give her.
Bond: We are working toward her release so she can go through this process from home, surrounded by her community, instead of from a detention cell. Please note: immigration bond is refunded in full when a case concludes and the person has met all their obligations. If bond money is returned to us it will be applied to Tinas ongoing legal fees/financial burden.
Commissary & Basic Needs: Providing funds for phone calls, food, and essential personal care items she can purchase inside the long term facility.
Tina cannot navigate this alone. Any contribution you can donate makes a vital difference in helping her secure her freedom, provide her with basic needs, and decide her path forward safely. If you have had the pleasure of being in her presence or have the honor of being her friend, you know how amazing she is and does not deserve this incredibly traumatic experience. I can personally attest that she is one of the best humans and most beautiful souls I have ever known. She is so incredibly tough and resilient, but right now she is scared, vulnerable, and alone.
Once we confirm which facility she is being transferred to we will be able to send her mail such as written letters, and books to read keep her mind occupied. We will be able to contact her through the inmate contact app ‘Getting Out’. I will keep you updated on the information you will need to be able to communicate with her.
I will post regular updates here so you know exactly where things stand.
Thank you for your generosity, support, and for sharing this page to help our Tina.
