Hi, my name is Madeline Haworth and at 72 years old and I’m taking on the biggest challenge of my life — running a marathon on October 26th in the freezing Polar Arctic in Greenland with my friends from Blackburn Road Runners Claire Bridge, Lesley Dewhirst & Margaret Morley.
I’m doing it to push myself to the limit, but more importantly, to raise money for a charity that’s very close to my heart. As an animal lover, I’ve supported Last Chance Animal Rescue in the past to help keep this amazing charity and its work alive. They rescue animals from Spain who are near death & give them medical care, love, and a second chance at life.
Right now, they’re in desperate need just to stay open and keep operating — and every single donation, no matter the size, will help keep those tails wagging.
The charity is a voluntary charity run by Mother & Daughter, Jacqui & Alex Ross. They have had to overcome some big challenges due to severe flooding recently & had to evacuate the animals to safety and rebuild the shelters which is very costly.
This won’t be an easy challenge for me, I suffer from Raynaud’s disease and I absolutely hate the cold so taking on the Arctic is going far outside my comfort zone but it a once in a lifetime challenge & having everyone support me will keep me focused.
Love Madeline Haworth
