Hello everyone. My name is Brendan Rose and I am a native Angeleno who currently makes his home in Washington D.C. I know I'm biased, but there is no place on Earth I love more than my hometown and watching the images of unimaginable destruction wrought by wildfire has been devastating.
Neighborhoods that I spent countless days and nights in have been reduced to ash. The scope of what is still unfolding is impossible to grasp. Being 3,000 miles away and feeling completely helpless, I'm starting this fundraiser is a way to channel my nervous energy into something productive and beneficial for the thousands of Angelenos who have had their lives upended this week.
All funds raised through this effort will be split evenly to the following groups on the ground offering resources to impacted individuals and families:
Mutual Aid Los Angeles Network - MALAN is a direct aid group that provides resources to the underserved in greater Los Angeles throughout the year and with the impact of the fires, has shifted to focus on "distribution of resources on the ground. Your donation will go to things like masks, food, water, and community mutual aid volunteers around the city. We are also working with other grassroots orgs whose operations and services have been limited or halted during the emergency. All your donations are very needed now and going forward."
LA Family Support - This was recently started by a mom who lost her home and her children's school in Altadena. It's purpose is to help children regain some sense of "normalcy" in this chaos by offering "up to 3 days of child care for little kids and camps for big kids to families affected by the fires. This support can be used for child care, microschools, or camps – whatever works best for your family's needs." Their goal is to "help restore some sense of normalcy for our littlest Angelenos during this challenging time."
Loyola High School Cura Personalis Fund - This is the fund of my alma mater that goes directly to the families of students who have lost everything. These resources include textbooks, electronics, sports equipment, and other essential resources "to ensure our students can continue their education and extracurricular activities without disruption."
Thank you in advance for your consideration of supporting this effort. When the fundraiser goal is hit, I will provide updates with proof of donation.
