Help the Gordon Family - Hurricane Sandy
During a recent volunteer trip to Staten Island, NY Laurie Keith had the opportunity to meet Brett Gordon - who was forced to evacuate his home during Hurricane Sandy on 10/29/12. Brett, Shannon and their two little girls Adrianna(9) and Mariella(7) were severely affected by the storm and lost everything. Their house, personal belongings and everything important to them was completely destroyed.
The Gordon family has lived in the home for 5 years. Brett, a blue-collar American worker whose parents immigrated to the US from Sicily, took such pride in his home. They had a great backyard for barbeques and had many wonderful memories associated with it:. his daughter's birthday parties, family gatherings, holidays, summer barbeques, etc.
The Gordon Family is now living in a small apartment in Brooklyn. They are dealing with tremendous financial pressure because they must pay rent on their apartment plus mortgage on their Staten Island home. We are stepping up to raise money for their livelihood. Our goal is to raise $2000 to help the Gordon's through this holiday season and replace some of the items that they lost.
Please give anything you can! Even just $5 will make a difference!! With the help of this website each donation will go directly to Brett and his family, no middleman. Together as friends, neighbors, co-workers and family we will help one family enjoy the holidays a bit easier and find normalcy again.
Thank you for your generosity,

About Allison and
Laurie
Allison and Laurie are
originally from the great state of Michigan. Laurie, who lives in NYC and
experienced Hurricane Sandy first-hand, works at the Ad
Council - a private, non-profit organization that
marshals volunteer talent from the advertising and communications industries,
the facilities of the media, and the resources of the business and non-profit
communities to deliver critical messages to the American public. After Laurie
posted Brett's story on her Facebook wall - Allison wanted to help. She
immediately contacted the Disaster Services Unit at the Corporation
for National and Community Service - a federal
agency that engages more than 5 million Americans in service through its
programs and leads President Obama's national call-to-service initiative.
Within 2 hours Allison had confirmation from a coworker that they had spoken
with Brett and an assessment was on their way to assist with the damage and
give assistance. Through their shared passion of giving back and lending a
hand to those in need - this donation site was created. Their hope
is that others will be inspired to donate and volunteer for the Hurricane Sandy
efforts.
