On October 29, 1982 my sister Alexis was born 3 months pre-mature. She weighed 2 lbs. 2 oz. 35+ years ago her prognosis was pretty grim. We were told IF she survived she would be a vegetable her entire life. Well.... she is NOT. Alexis is a quadriplegic. She has cerebral palsy and spina bifidu. Alexis has the BEST attitude, the sweetest and most kindest souls. Though... unfortunately.... she now has stage 2 triple negative breast cancer. What is triple negative? It is a fast growing, pretty aggressive breast cancer.
Alexis came to live with me, her oldest sister, and my family nearly 7 years ago. It has been challenging at times, with many trips to the ER, ICU for 2 1/2 weeks, up in the middle of the night most nights and the things that come along with caring for a young adult with disabilities. HOWEVER, Alexis brings us sooooo much joy and happiness. She hasn't just shown and taught our family about unconditional LOVE.... she teaches all those who surround her about love, compassion, understanding, patience, kindness, selflessness and so much more. AND..... she is teaching my kids and now my grandkids.
Alexis is our WARRIOR!!!! She has had MANY battles in her life. I cannot tell you how many times I have her the words "IF your sister makes it....." And... guess what? She has... many, many times over.
Alexis was diagnosed on February 27, 2018 with breast cancer. She has already begun chemo. She will do chemo for 6 months.... or at least however long her little body can handle it. Then she will have surgery.
One of the MANY miracles I have witnessed already is the AMAZING support we have had from our friends and family. I truly believe that the LOVE, support and positive energy that already surrounds Alexis is what is going to help her WIN this, once again, battle she must face. And if she doesn't, we are prepared for that too. Though.... we are going to have as much FUN as we can during this time.
Alexis has a bucket list..... from going to concerts, iFly, to Morgan's Wonderland, to skydiving, to a family vacation (a short cruise so she can swim with the dolphins...she LOVES to be in the water) or a trip to New York City.... to many, many more. We are raising money to help support her bucket list.... paying for her cost and the caregiver, friend or family member who takes her. The money raised will also help additional expenses with our household duties... like cleaning, food, etc.... as well as the additional costs associated with her travel to chemo (it takes her 1 hour) and the additional doctor appointments in San Antonio because of her other conditions.
With your donation (a minimum of $20.. this includes shipping) you may request Team Alexis T-shirts. If you would like one, please indicate "Yes I want a Team Alexis T-shirt", your size and send me your email and/or mailing address I will take orders for T-shirts until May 15th. And then I'll submit the order and get them sent out to everyone.
