37 years apart and 2 summers ago, I reunited with my childhood best friend, Electra Samaras. We had the most beautiful reunion in Athens and the islands. I got to meet her wonderful family and share meals, laughter, tears and so many sweet memories.
Electra is now going through the battle of a lifetime. Her devoted husband and partner in life has passed away Sept. 1 2023 from liver cancer. After 5 excruciating months in the hospital, every treatment failed. It came on so hard and so quick. The devastation of the sickness was heart wrenching.
Marko had also given his life to his devotion to work. After many years of frustrating bureaucracy with the Greek business system, he finally opened up his own car paint store last year and got to work it for only 6 months. It was a lifelong dream that finally came to fruition. Now he is no longer here to be boss and caretaker of his business and has left Electra and Manoli to learn all aspects of the business and keep the store afloat. Electra also has had the monumental job of being a devoted mother to Eleni, who is developmentally and intellectually disabled. Electra has fought for her daughter's medical and mental health for the entirety of her life since she had life affecting epileptic seizures at age 5.Manoli has had to stop his school dreams in order to show up for the family business. All of this is heartbraking and I feel compelled to keep this family afloat. The strain and stress of the situation has sent young Manoli to the ICU w/a heart condition. Electra also has had to go to the emergency for a stress related sickness.
Electra was left with expenses, bills and debt she didn't know about until Markos passing. They are literally fighting for their survival. SOS. If Jamie cannot make bank payments, her home will be taken from her.
We are brainstorming alternative ideas w/her to create new income, but this is going to take several months and right now they need to pay their immediate bills, have groceries and keep their hone. Please donate whatever you can. All funding will go to keep this very special family afloat.
