Gerry's cancer battle with squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue led to numerous visits to the Oral Maxillofacial Unit at UF Shands. Each visit, technicians and nurses would come in to take Gerry's temperature with an oral thermometer. When Gerry lost his tongue throughout his multiple surgeries, this was no longer a viable option for him. During this experience, we saw the need for this 6th hospital unit and clinic facility to be equipped with professional grade forehead/ear thermometers.
