Georgia resident facing eviction after house fire

Mattline Render was born on February 7th, 1947, in Moreland Georgia. Mattline grew up running track and saw it as a fun motivation for a hot meal while practicing in high school. Mattline was recruited by Tennessee State University through a Summer program for young athletes and went on to be on the university’s track team. Mattline graduated from Tennessee State University with a major in physical education and recreation and a minor in psychology. In 1971, Mattline represented Georgia and the United States during the Pan-American games and won a gold medal in the 4x100 relay race. That year Mattline also set a world record for the 4x110-yard relay race. Then in 1972, Mattline competed in the Summer Olympics, running in the 100-meter and 4x100-meter relay race and placed fourth in the relay.

Following her inspiring athletic career, Mattline taught at several schools throughout the country and worked as a personal trainer. Mattline moved back to Newman Georgia 20 years ago to help her mother after she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and congenital heart disease, later retiring to better support her mother's growing health complications.

Unfortunately, in 2007 Mattline experienced a house fire which led to the loss of her home’s electricity, gas, and water. Since this tragedy, Mattline has been fighting in court over code violations and neighbor complaints. She has not been able to make progress on revitalizing her home and has had to move around and live with family and friends due to her housing instability. With her continuing legal challenges, Mattline has struggled to get back on her feet, not being able to clean or organize her house as she wants to.

This GoFundMe is to address these challenges. To support someone who so consistently and unconditionally devotes her time, energy, and life to serving others. To show respect and admiration to an American hero and a valued resident of Georgia. We aim to use these funds to help repair the damage done to Mattline’s property and ensure she is entitled to her home that she is fighting valiantly to keep.
