On November 6, 2019, I and the world, lost a dear friend and cousin, Joseph Anthony "Tony" Negron at age 59. Although tests are pending, medical professionals think he died of a heart attack.
He was a kind person with a heart of gold, willing to help people. Very active in his church and it's teachings, Tony believed in the power of prayer and the teachings of Jesus Christ. He tried very hard to lead a Christian life with examples of love, compassion and support for others.
When he was hospitalized a while back, he commented that he loved being part of a multi-cultural community and admired that so many medical professional came from different cultures and religions. Tony commented on how "love" will heal the hate we see so much in this world. I admired this loving quality in Tony who was able to "walk the talk" a trait that made him so special.
As part of the Deaf Community, my cousin Tony also attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Manhattan. The church features special programs and sermons for the deaf. He did not allow his "disability" to get in the way of his "ability" and led a pretty normal life.
Tony was the middle child and considered his two brothers, Eddie & Dougie his best friends. He also loved his mom so much. Just last week he spent the entire week with his brother Eddie and mom Micki, enjoying them to the fullest while not realizing it would be the last time they would all be together.
He leaves behind his son Anthony, a multi-talented young man who has made him so proud. An artist as well as an aspiring actor, his only child is a chip off the old block, a mini-me of my cousin Tony.
We are asking friends and family to help in defraying the funeral costs for Tony. He will be cremated and a memorial service will follow at St. Anthony of Padua Church - 135-11 125th St, South Ozone Park, NY. Actual date to be posted soon.
I posted this particular photo of my cousin because it is so iconic and representative of his love for New York City. Thank you for your support and contribution.
