Sarah gets back on the bike!
Just 6 months ago I sustained serious head injury and very nearly lost my life in a bike accident. My journey to full recovery since has been remarkable and due in large part to the skill, professionalism and responsiveness of the medical services, as well as the encouragement and support of so many of my friends and family since. It’s now time to mark this with a return to the bike saddle (this time with helmet!) on a cycling excursion that will help recover my confidence but, more importantly, will allow me to express something of the gratitude I feel for all those who have aided my recovery.
So, together with some friends, I plan to cycle the circuit of Lake Annecy on 23rd February – a total distance of 50 km. Whilst not the Tour de France this Tour du Lac Annecy will still be a tough challenge for me just 6 months after being in a coma in intensive care. Annecy is also very appropriate as it was where I was hospitalised and the scene of my subsequent recovery in the nearby Korian clinic.
I’d like to use this opportunity to raise funds for the services that were so critical in getting me to where I am today – the emergency services, the intensive care and neurology teams, and the staff who conducted my subsequent therapies. The more funds they have the more their excellent care can be sustained and extended.
I would also like to donate to the excellent British charity Headway UK which has provided me with exceptional information and support throughout my recovery from brain injury.
It would be fantastic if you’re able to see your way to sponsoring me in this event. All proceeds will go to help the services which I’ve seen and experienced at first hand. So I know they are fully deserving of support. Many thanks in anticipation of your help.
