Hey! My name is Maya, I'm a circus artist in Toronto and I'm having my foot amputated!

Back in June of 2025 I had a surgery that would be a last attempt to try to tackle the excruciating pain that I've been experiencing for the last 8+ years of my life. Unfortunately not only was the surgery unsuccessful, it made my pain worse.

After a cancer diagnosis with more unknown outcomes than not, several tumour resections, years of pain management trial and error, and feeling like a guinea pig in my own health journey, I have decided and my doctors have agreed to go forward with amputation.

The exact amputation date is still unknown, but the timeline my team and I are looking at is Fall of 2026. This will give me time to process the decision—something that many amputees are not afforded the luxury of—and it will allow me time to raise and save funds to purchase a prosthetic designed to fit my very active lifestyle.

Prosthetics are very very costly and because they aren't covered by OHIP and coverage is possible but not guaranteed through other resources, I need to plan to pay for it out of pocket.
