Hello! I am completing graduate thesis for my Master's of Architecture at USC. I need your help funding material and production cost for fashion patterns and samples for a final exhibition/ show.
My thesis deals with ancestry/ migration and how cultural practices can be adapted to suit the needs of those in the diaspora through fashion and architecture.
My project statement is below:
WHAT
Due to colonization, immigration, and displacement (in search
for resources) society has moved into and now occupies spaces very different
from their ancestral homelands. Many are convinced that specific regions
should be occupied due to proximity to perceived opportunities.
The theory of ancestra/ands states that people are in a state
of equilibrium when they inhabit places that mimic the
ecology of their ancestors’ homelands.
WHY
Regions that do mimic ancestra/ands are deemed so
economically unviable and out of reach that often
information about living there does not exist.
RESEARCH
This thesis researches the aesthetic of Algeria
through an expression of form and fashion within the
semi/quasi space. The quasi is core to everyday social practices
and cultural connections in African cultures.
The final will consist of design/ production of a unisex clothing line
coupling the design of a unisex open, flexible pavilion space
to be utilized on the journey from Paris to Algeria(Insha'Allah).
This action-oriented approach will inform how the practice will
adapt as globalization and migration persists.
