Help Amelia Access a Full Year of Life-Changing Care
Amelia is a bright, creative pre-teen with complex developmental and behavioral needs. After exhausting every local resource, her family found the Monarch Boarding Academy and School in Cleveland - a nationally recognized program where she is finally safe, learning, and supported.
The cost of room and board is $943.50 per day. County funding covers only the first four months, but Amelia needs a full year of care to stabilize and make lasting progress. Your donation will directly fund her continued stay at Monarch, ensuring she receives the education, therapies, and medical care she truly needs.
Meet Amelia
Amelia is a loving, creative, and resilient 12-year-old who faces daily challenges most of us can hardly imagine. She has developmental disabilities, complex behavioral needs, and a history of trauma that has made it difficult for her to safely attend school or participate in the community. Despite these obstacles, Amelia’s spirit shines through - she loves music, art, and animals, and she brings joy to those around her when she feels safe and supported.
Our Journey So Far
My name is Elizabeth Eddy-Strieter, and together with my spouse, we are the proud parents of two wonderful, adopted children. For years, we have worked with Lucas County Children Services and other local agencies to give our children the stability and care they deserve. We have tried every available program, therapy, and schooling option to help Amelia succeed.
Despite everyone’s best efforts, local resources were not equipped to meet her intensive needs. Traditional schools could only accommodate her for brief periods each day, and even specialized autism programs could not safely serve her. Over time, her mental-health crises escalated, leading to repeated hospitalizations and increasing danger for both her and our family.
After years of searching, we finally found the care Amelia needs at the Monarch Boarding Academy and School in Cleveland, Ohio - a specialized program offering 24-hour clinical and behavioral support in a home-like setting, individualized education, and comprehensive therapies. For the first time, Amelia is in an environment where she can safely learn, grow, and heal.
The Care She Needs
Monarch provides individualized schooling, speech and occupational therapy, art, music, horticulture, and behavioral interventions coordinated by on-site psychiatrists and psychologists. The environment is designed for children like Amelia - with sensory supports, adaptive learning spaces, and constant care from trained professionals.
However, the room and board cost is $943.50 per day - more than $340,000 for 12 months of care. Lucas County Children Services has agreed to cover the first four months, but Amelia will need eight additional months of support to complete the full year recommended by her care team. Without this funding, she may have to leave the program too soon, jeopardizing her stability and progress.
How You Can Help
Your donation will go directly toward Amelia’s room and board for the remaining eight months at Monarch, ensuring she continues to receive the education, therapy, and medical support she needs. Every contribution helps keep Amelia safe, supported, and moving toward a brighter future.
Our Gratitude
We are deeply thankful for every act of kindness - from financial support to sharing Amelia’s story. Your generosity gives our daughter hope, stability, and the opportunity for a better life.
With gratitude,
Elizabeth Eddy-Strieter and Family
