Farm-to-Prison (FTP) is a project focused on reproductive justice and food justice at the intersection of childbearing and incarceration.
Due to correctional facilities being inaccessible during the pandemic, we shifted focus from prisoner support (while we find new ways to support from afar) to building a community apothecary for unhoused and low-resource folks. We also now organize a small mutual aid network in Denver, an abortion fund + doula services for anyone seeking support or access, and several reproductive justice + health publications. All of these projects are a community effort.
Community Abortion Fund - $5000
The CAF offers abortion doula services, SMA (funding, access, support), and transportation to and from in-clinic services. We support folks in many geographical locations, not just locally. We partner with community midwives in various territories to provide services in locations experiencing various types of inaccessibility (financial, geographical, familial). Community (moonroot) Apothecary - $3000
Our community apothecary is a continuously revolving door with ever-changing needs and offerings. We try our best to meet various community needs through the creation of herbal aids and offering no- and low-cost tisanes, tinctures, salves, etc for unhoused and low-resource folks (and anyone who might not have access otherwise).
Many herbalists have donated their energy, skills, and medicines to keep our apothecary bustling and full of life. However, it is a constant wellspring that must be fed in order to flourish and provide for individuals and families. Our apothecary has been in hibernation for the last few months while we attempt to secure new resources. To keep our apothecary functional, we would love to compensate the herbalists who help sustain us. As well as requiring sustainable funding for herbs and supplies.
Our ongoing offerings always include postpartum kits, as well as hand sanitizer and numerous non-alcoholic herbal aids for various needs. We aim to expand these offerings over the coming months, but need community support in doing so.
Bodywork Services for BIPoC Folks - $3000
Our bodywork services are a temporary extension of our apothecary work. We are building a collective of BIPoC bodyworkers offering sliding scale, and no/low cost bodywork (therapeutic massage therapy, ear seeding, cupping, abdominal massage, etc) to:
-sex workers
-BIPoC folks who've experienced previous cesareans, birth trauma, or abortion
-previously incarcerated mothers
$3000 would provide 1-hour sessions for 30 individuals, plus fund a few months of supplies (ear seeds, cups, oils, sheets) needed for our home clinic in Cap Hill. We plan to offer this for 3 months this summer/fall, but only if we can acquire the funding to make it happen.
Community Arts & Magazine - $1000
Our reproductive justice publication, PUSH, has 2 published issues (incarceration and food medicine) and 1 in the works (abortion and contraception). We are also collaborating with our friend Matte on a health manual for our incarcerated community members. All of these creative projects require funding. Both to support artists and contributors, as well as to cover print costs (all our printing is done by a local woman-owned union shop).
