Therapy Dog Freddy Pickles Cancer Expenses
Donation protected
On July 20, 2022, my best boy, Freddy Pickles, was diagnosed with cancer. I noticed a strange bump on his lip and within a month it was red, angry, and would bleed often. The vet agreed it needed to come off ASAP and be sent to pathology. Unfortunately the pathologist didn't give us good news: Freddy has a very aggressive form of melanoma. He's only 9 (not even double digits yet!) and it all seems so unfair.
His current treatment plan is a financial nightmare. I've already spent $1200 on his initial surgery, follow-up scans, and tests. After he recovers from the second surgery, he'll start immunotherapy with infusions every two weeks for six months, then every six months for two years. The infusions alone are $800 per injection, which is more than my monthly mortgage. So we're looking at around $10,000+ here just for the initial rounds of infusions and surgery, not counting anything else that happens to come up along the way.
He is my absolute best friend and soul mate and I will spend every last dime I have to get him happy and healthy again. Right now he's acting 100% normal and is completely oblivious that his body is betraying him.
Freddy has touched the lives of many people over the years. He's a certified therapy dog through an Austin organization called Divine Canines that provides free therapy dog services throughout central Texas. Freddy has over 200 visits under his belt and loves his job. His two favorite sites to visit are St. David's Hospital and an elementary school in Pflugverville, TX where kids in their dyslexic program read to him.
Thank you all for supporting us during this awful time in our lives. Freddy and I appreciate it more than you'll ever know.
(I will be very upfront about the monetary donations we receive. I'll periodically post photos of receipts, and if we happen to get more than is necessary it will be donated directly to Divine Canines)
