For Jason: We Still Say His Name
August 28 would have been Jason's 25th birthday.
Instead, this August marks three years since we lost him.
I have spent a long time wondering what I could do to honor his life. I can't change the past, and I can't bring him back. But I can make sure his name continues to stand for something good.
Jason was strong, responsible, independent, and quiet. He didn't always need to be the loudest person in the room. He was just Jason.
More than anything, I want people to know that Jason was loved.
I don't think he ever truly knew just how deeply he was loved, and that is something I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
So for what would have been his 25th birthday, my goal is to raise $2,500 for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
Throughout August, I'll be sharing Jason's name, his pictures, his memories, and this fundraiser. Every donation made through this fundraiser will benefit AFSP in Jason's memory.
If you're able to donate, thank you. Every dollar matters.
If you can't donate, please don't scroll away thinking this message isn't for you.
It is.
Share Jason's story if you'd like. Say his name. Reach out to someone you love. Remind someone that they matter. And if you're the person who needs that reminder today, then please take this one with you:
You are loved.
You matter.
You belong here.
Never forget that.
For Jason.
We still say his name.
