Johnny Flores 10 yrs. old, California State Champion, Young Gun Division
Roberto Flores 17 yrs. old, California State Champion, Youth Division
Howdy! We are the Flores Brothers. Local Burbank residents, my brother Johnny and I need your help. We both are the current 2014 State Champions for our divisions with the Extreme Cowboy Association. Now, we need to raise $4,000 this year to go to Texas and compete in the World Finals and we need your help!
Last year we both qualified and competed at the World Championships in Texas that debuted on the national television show, RFD TV’s Craig Cameron Ride Smart. Johnny was also featured on the show! He came in 5th in the world! I also compete but and was specifically proud that I trained our horse and coached my brother all the way to the world finals. Itzels Midnight Fury was a rescued horse from a humble ranch in Mexico. I trained Itzel to learn how to properly lope, stop, back up, side pass, jump, and rollback. Later on, I exposed Itzel to cutting, roping and sorting cattle! I learned so much by working for Billy Camarillo (Cutting Horse Trainer) and then working with Dale Gibson to fine tune his roping skills.
Johnny, 10yr. old fell in love with horses at the age of 5. Last year the crows went crazy when he galloped at full speed and let go of the reins! He loves working the horse with me and takes a lot of interest learning about their nutrition and work out schedule. Johnny not only respects the horse but now he loves them so much he wants to be horse trainer and chemist.
This is my senior year and I also decided to take on my old roping horse, Toro to train for Extreme Cowboy Racing and consistently show him a long with Itzel. Itzel keeps winning 1st in local races and Toro is coming in 2nd! Side Note: Last year Toro was showed by my mom and not only refused obstacles but came in nearly last every time. While continuing to polishing up Itzel, Toro is now jumping over anything, dragging everything, and even playing soccer. This is my last year in the Youth division before I go to college. I’m applying to colleges with equestrian teams to continue my passion for horses.
