Film Camp & Documentary for North Korean Resettlers

This is a fundraiser for the production of a documentary short covering the lives of North Korean defectors/resettlers, and a weekend film camp for Korean youth. This is in partnership with the Joshua Center, Huntington University, and UB Global.

This fundraiser has been put together by students attending Huntington University majoring in Film Production: Micah Gilliom (Senior), Hannah Johnson (Senior), Alex Anderson (Graduating Senior), and Elise Faurote (Junior).

These four students will be embarking on a two-week trip to Busan, South Korea in July 2025. They will be hosted by the Joshua Center of South Korea https://joshuacenter7.com/, with the goal of producing their second documentary short covering the lives of North Korean resettlers. This documentary will focus on younger individuals and families, recalling their experiences settling into South Korea after escaping the North. The HU students involved in this trip will also be counselors and mentors for Korean students for a weekend film camp. These Korean students are predominantly children of North Korean resettlers. They will be taught the basics of film and storytelling, and will produce and create a short film over the course of the weekend. This camp will be a hands-on experience taught through the Christian lens of the HU students involved.

Cost Outline:

Flight from Columbus, OH to Busan, South Korea (x4): $3,650

Film Tripods for Campers (x4): $200

Documentary Editing Costs & Subscriptions: $100

Fundraiser Transactional Fees: $50

Note: UB Global has partially covered flight costs, and meals and transportation in-country are covered by the Joshua Center.
