I survived an abusive relationship that left me emotionally, financially, and mentally drained. When I finally escaped, my only priority was keeping my daughter safe. She was just six months old when the legal process started — and now, more than three years later, we are still fighting in the court system.

For over three years, I’ve been dealing with hearings, filings, applications, and constant emotional pressure. It has taken a tremendous toll, but I continue pushing forward for the sake of my daughter’s wellbeing and future.

I applied for Legal Aid, hoping to finally get the support we need. However, I was denied because I exceeded the eligibility limit by only $200. Despite being a single mother and a survivor of abuse, that tiny difference disqualified me from receiving assistance.

Without financial support, I am facing legal costs that are simply impossible for me to manage alone. Trial fees can reach up to $6,000 per day, and a trial usually lasts three days — not including additional filing fees, preparation costs, or unexpected legal procedures. These amounts are overwhelming for anyone, but especially for someone who has already lost so much.

I cannot represent myself alone anymore. The legal system is too complex, too intimidating, and too crucial when it comes to protecting a child. I need proper legal representation — not only to defend myself but to safeguard my daughter’s future.
