Eleanora's Scoliosis corrective surgery

Donation protected

When my daughter Eleanora was 7 years old, I noticed what looked like a curve in her spine but I thought maybe it was just the way she was standing... As a few months went on and she was nearly 8 years old I checked her back again and this time the curve looked a little more pronounced so I called her pediatrician at Platte Valley Pediatrics and made an appointment to have her back X-rayed. Hoping and praying so hard that my suspicions were to be unfounded, we went in for the xray.... And they confirmed my worst fear.

My daughter had the beginnings of scoliosis.

I was devastated. My family was devastated. But I wasn't about to sit and let it take control.  I then took action with the help of her pediatrician and she referred us to a specialist in Denver. We then began the process of her preventative care. She began with a curve that was minimal at about an 11 degree curve. We were to put her in an acrylic corrective brace once she got to a 25 to 30 degree curve.

Over the course, of 4 years and multiple trips to Denver, Colorado every 6 months and lots of physical therapy, both at home and at multiple facilities we tried tirelessly to prevent surgery.

We had one last hope at a physical therapy center in Fort Collins, stating that they could reduce her curve by 30 degrees, at this point she was at a 50 degree curve... We were gonna try it.

22 therapy sessions in Fort Collins, we were told after an xray that her curve was reduced by 15 degrees but a follow up with specialist in Denver, the next day....my worst fear was confirmed.... Her curve was over 60 degrees and she needed the surgery. Each facility measured her curves differently from what we discovered in the comparison in xrays.

At this point, if her curve gets to 70 degrees or more it will start to affect her heart and lungs. I just want my daughter to have as normal a childhood as possible....

Right now as it is, the costs for this procedure just for the doctor and the anesthesia is just over $21 thousand dollars and she will need pain management and be at the hospital in surgery for 3 to 6 hours and after care, which includes a stay in the children's hospitals for up to 5 days. And more physical therapy may be needed. Her expenses are quickly stacking up....

Unfortunately, we don't have adequate insurance and what we do have won't cover her expenses and 2/3 of her care has been out of pocket over the last 4 years, which has been an immense struggle.  We are asking for help with this process and procedure as it will save her life. We only have a small window of opportunity to get this surgery done as her body is quickly twisting upon itself.

Her surgery is scheduled for August 27th of 2019 and the clock is quickly ticking.

Please help with what you can and share her story so that my daughter can get this corrective surgery covered and she can begin the process of getting back to being a kid.

Thank you and many blessings to all.
