Elders Without AC After 5 Years: Help Us Rebuild Comfort

In 2014, our family experienced a house fire in the attic where the AC unit was located. After the fire, a new unit was installed, but a few years later it stopped working. Although we had home insurance, the AC was never truly repaired. For the past five years, we’ve lived without AC.

We’ve Tried Everything

We’ve reached out to get repair quotes, looked into replacements, and even applied twice for the Weatherization Program. While my parents were approved both times, the first application was stalled due to funding, and now they’re stuck on the waiting list again. Meanwhile, we’re using a patchwork of window units (mostly in the back of the house for security reasons), portable units, and fans in nearly every room.

️It’s Getting Too Hot

This summer, the temperature in the house has regularly stayed between 82°F and 88°F — and recently hit the 90s. With my father diagnosed with Parkinson’s and both of my parents aging, this heat is becoming more than just uncomfortable and health risk.
