Eddie was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on November 28, 2014. Yes, that’s the day after Thanksgiving. He went to the emergency room for abdominal pain. A CT scan revealed a lesion on his pancreas, and a biopsy confirmed the diagnosis.
Eddie lives to make people smile. This is the guy who jokingly nicknamed his biceps "Thunder" and “Lightning." He keeps us laughing at UH tailgating parties and just about every time we see him.
Eddie is one of the "good guys" and is the nicest person you'll ever meet. His diagnosis is baffling because he doesn't have predisposing factors. He doesn't smoke, he's had less than 10 alcoholic drinks in his entire life, he eats relatively well, he exercises (Zumba), and cancer doesn't run in the family.
This all comes as Eddie should be celebrating.
On November 8, 2014 , Eddie married Davilla, the girl of his dreams. And this past May, Eddie graduated with his PhD in Educational Technology from the University of Hawaii. In fact, that picture you see at the top was taken at his graduation. He INSISTED the chancellor give him a high five, not a handshake. That's Eddie.
But our big, huggable “Eddie Bear” is fired up and ready for a battle! Eddie and Davilla flew to Portland, Oregon on December 15, 2014 to weigh their options and hopefully begin treatment soon. Eddie is young and healthy, but again he needs us.
We've spoken to many well-wishers and everyone wants to help. So let’s do it!!! Please join him as he begins this journey. Feel free to share your experiences and offer words of support! My friends and I would like to open a fund for Eddie to help ease related costs (medical costs, lodging, transportation). Give what you can and keep Eddie in your prayers. Eddie will need to focus all his energy on the FIGHT!!!!
