Some of you know by now that my mom, Lisa Pentecost, was diagnosed with breast cancer almost a month ago.
Back story... Lisa woke up one morning in February to a fairly large lump in her breast. She went to the doctors and had it examined. They ended up ordering a mammogram and biopsy. They both confirmed that the lump was cancerous.
Since the diagnosis almost a month ago, we have been trying to get her care. We thought we had one doctor lined up who could help, but they turned her away due to being uninsured. We haven't been able to get her any further tests to determine the stage or anything. We are back to square one and 4 months have already gone by since she has noticed the lump. We can't wait any longer to get her treatment. And we cannot afford to get referred from doctor to doctor for them to tell us after two weeks of waiting that they won't help.
Cancer treatment is a huge financial burden to both the insured and uninsured. I am sure that we will need more than the set goal on this fundraiser but right now we just need to get her in somewhere so someone can look at her and move forward with the necessary tests and treatments.
Asking for this level of help is way out of both of our comfort zones, but we need it. Any donation amount is appreciated beyond what words can express.
