"We The People" Stained Glass Quilt
Donation protected
My name is Davies Rushing and I am completing a 6’ x 6’ stained glass project my late grandmother, Billie Russell, started in 1985 containing 560 government officials' signatures she collected during the Reagan and Bush administrations.
After seeing Adeline Harris Sears’s quilt from 1863 featuring signatures from prominent figures, my grandmother was inspired to do the same but with signatures etched into pieces of glass. She named her project "We The People." She traveled from Campbellsville, KY to Washington D.C., and successfully obtained signatures from every person in office from all branches of government including President Ronald Reagan and Vice President George H. W. Bush. There were plans to have it displayed in the Capitol Rotunda and donated to the National Gallery of Art afterwards.
Billie passed before she was able to put all the pieces of glass together and the project has been on hold until now, nearly 40 years later.
This historic artwork needs to be completed. Like Billie, I am an artist and I have the ability to put it together for her. I need funding to buy the materials and tools needed to finish this extraordinary piece of art.
Every gift of any size is really appreciated!
