Hello,

My name is Bailie Miskie, and I am creating this fundraiser to support my close friend, Karla Ramirez, and her family during an incredibly difficult time.

Karla is currently 5 months pregnant while raising her sweet 4-year-old son, Julian, who lives with Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC), a rare genetic disorder that causes tumours to grow in vital organs throughout the body. Julian has tumours in his brain, eyes, heart, and kidneys. As a complication of TSC, he also lives with severe epilepsy, hemimegaloencephaly, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, and global developmental delay.

Julian requires constant care, therapies, medications, medical appointments, and support with activities of daily living.

Over the years, Karla has worked incredibly hard to balance full-time employment while caring for Julian’s extensive medical needs. Recently, however, life became even more overwhelming. She lost her job after struggling to keep up with the demands of caregiving, and shortly afterward, her vehicle was hit by a truck and completely totalled. Without reliable transportation, getting to medical appointments, buying groceries, and managing everyday life has become extremely difficult.

Now, while pregnant and unemployed, Karla is facing the possibility of losing her home and has been considering moving in with family just to survive. To make matters harder, some of Julian’s essential medications and therapies — including CBD oil that helps manage his epilepsy — are not covered by public healthcare and are becoming increasingly difficult to afford.

I am starting this fundraiser with the goal to relieve some of the immense financial pressure Karla is facing so she can focus on what matters most: caring for her children safely and getting through this incredibly challenging season.

Funds raised will help cover:

• A wheelchair-accessible vehicle for Julian's mobility needs

• Rent and housing expenses

• Uncovered medical expenses and therapies for Julian

• Groceries and basic household needs

• Pregnancy and newborn essentials
