So, the hits from the COVID shutdown keep coming. Audiences, clientele, work in general, all still slow, some workplaces have even closed. Weirdly, I’m busy as ever, but costs have doubled on many things, and with the reduced income I haven’t been able to establish any reserves for emergencies. As most of you know, I often drive hundreds of miles a week to work as well as to the different theatres around town to take care of my work there. Recently, I posted how proud I was that my car had reached 300,000 miles and was still going. That’s not the case any longer. Aside from stuff that just plain wears out at that mileage, the transmission is about to go at any time now.
I hate asking for help. I HATE it. But this is an emergency situation and not something I can take care of quickly.
So, I’m starting a Go Fund Me account to help solve this. A refurbished transmission plus labor will run about $5500. A similar replacement car (newer and with fewer miles) will also cost about $5500.
Without a car, I can’t travel to my work, and without work, I can’t even make basic bills. So, I’m asking for help. I’m open to paying it all back if need be. I have all sorts of work scheduled for months ahead, so there will be money. But this is sudden and urgent. I’m worried every time I drive the car that that will be the day it finally goes.
This is quite humiliating, but I seem to be out of options. Any help will be appreciated. If it’s more a loan situation, let's talk. I'm open to all suggestions.
