Spruce Mountain Ski Club: 70 Years of Community, Progress, and the Future of Skiing

As Spruce Mountain Ski Club celebrates its 70th anniversary, we are proud to share the progress being made on our $368,000 Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC) grant and the continued commitment of our volunteers and local business partners. One of the most significant milestones has been the excavation and preparation of the site for our new snowmaking air compressor, which has now been delivered and installed thanks to our dedicated, multi-talented volunteers and the generous contributions of local businesses through labor and materials. This major improvement has the potential to triple our snowmaking capacity, helping us make better use of favorable weather conditions and provide a more reliable winter skiing experience for our community. Planning is also underway for the lodge fire suppression system, which will allow us to better utilize the second floor of our lodge, along with upgrades and replacements to our tow rope lift systems. These projects represent important investments in the safety, reliability, and long-term future of Spruce Mountain Ski Area.

While we are making tremendous progress, we still need our community's help to meet the ski club's financial obligations under the grant. Our matching commitment includes $37,000 in cash contributions and $65,000 in in-kind labor and materials. Our mountain operations group has already devoted countless hours to these projects, and we are deeply grateful to everyone who has contributed their time, skills, equipment, and resources. As we prepare for the 2026–2027 winter season, we welcome additional volunteers to help get the mountain ready for opening day. Regular maintenance on our outbuildings and other essential projects continues behind the scenes, often going unnoticed but remaining critical to keeping the ski area safe and operational. With fuel and utility costs continuing to rise, the challenges of operating a small, community-supported ski area are very real. Please consider making a donation and sharing our GoFundMe campaign with your friends, family, and neighbors. Every contribution, whether financial or through volunteer labor, makes a difference in preserving this special local ski hill for generations to come. For 70 years, Spruce Mountain has been a place where memories are made, skills are learned, and community connections grow. Together, we can keep it that way for the next generation of Spruce Kids.
