It’s probably pretty hard to have missed Rorrie Toren’s story on your facebook page recently if you are friends with one of the many branches of the Toren family. Most know but those who don’t here is the crazy story of how Rorrie lost the use of his legs 45 years ago.

In 1976 he was paralyzed from the waist down during a rodeo accident when he was 16 years old. He was told he would never walk again. That was something he could accept however he did not accept them saying he couldn’t ride horses again. Not only did he prove them wrong and has been riding and breaking horses ever since but with the help of braces and crutches he found a way to be able to “walk”, rode snowmobiles, become an amazing Husband, Father, Uncle, Brother, Son and Friend to so many people.

What you may not know about Rorrie or what you might not see in your day to day is that Rorrie has been dealing with a lot of medical issues the last few years. Over the last 3 years he has undergone 8+ large surgeries due to Ischial Ulcer excision and to repair Fascination flap of his right buttock. After a very scary time in our families lives when we weren’t sure how much longer we would be blessed with him, the doctors finally got a handle on the infection and after a long recovery he was able to start riding again. Well a sudden stop from his horse that caused him to jar his shoulder really bad caused him to be bound to his electric scooter because he had very little use of his arm. With all that being said the infection has come back and more surgeries are being scheduled. Now that you have a little background on the last 3 years of Rorries life… If you know him even just through a story you heard once upon a time then you know he isn’t very good at sitting still. Rorrie wants to live his life, be around the people he loves, watch his children and great Nephews/Nieces ride their horses or just be involved in the day to day.

The scooter Rorrie currently has was used when he got it and has been good but is not reliable to get him out and about as well as is not made for being outside in the spaces he wants to go. On more than one occasion he has tipped and been left waiting for someone to find him and help. Insurance will not cover a scooter or other day to day things life continues to throw at him.

My goal is to help Rorrie get the scooter he deserves to be able to continue to live the wonderful life he has known and be able to grace us with his wonderful sense of humor and wisdom he shares so well.
