Hello!
My name is McKenna. Life has turned out differently than I had planned. I graduated with my bachelors in biology in May, 2023. To my surprise, one year later, I would decide I wanted to go into nursing school. I am now accepted into the OSF College of Nursing. I am fortunate enough to have my tuition paid for, but expenses such as books, my background check, scrubs, and reliable shoes are not covered. I am working part time, as that is all I am able to work with my current class schedule. I start nursing school January 13th, 2025, and would like to at least have some of the cost of books and other course supplies covered. Any little bit helps!

Update: I went to an orientation of sorts on Saturday, and while I have many items checked off on my list, there are still a number of things that will cost me out of pocket. A list of items that I still need include:
  • a webcam
  • headphones
  • planner
  • textbooks
  • sturdy backpack
  • penlight
  • bandage scissors
  • navy blue scrubs
  • black, navy, or white closed-toed shoes that are comfortable for many hours on my feet
  • tissues
  • clipboard with storage capability
  • stain remover sticks
  • and if all else fails, they suggest gift cards to places such as Barnes and Noble and uniform stores
I created an Amazon wish list with everything but the scrubs (I think) on there, so if you are wanting to see what your contributions are going toward or would even just like to purchase something directly, you can! Here's the link: Amazon List

When looking at the cost of the background and drug screen required by the institution, I was shocked to discover it was a little over $110! Fortunately, I have a couple months to get it sorted out, but I would rather have it done sooner than later.

Some of the textbooks are provided by the institution, graciously, while others I will need to purchase. I am going to attempt to see what former first year nursing students have in terms of books, and if I can buy them off of them, I will. In the instance I can't, however, due to them not meeting the requirements, I have decided to try my best to raise the funds to pay for a book completely new should that come to be what needs done. The estimated cost of these, as was provided through a list by the college, is as follows:
  • Health Assessment in Nursing (Weber and Kelley, 2022, 7th edition): $146.99
  • Gould's Pathophysiology for the Health Professional (Hubert and VanMeter, 2023, 7th edition): $127.99
  • Pharmacology and the Nursing Process (Lilley et al., 2023, 10th edition): $125.99
  • Sparks and Taylor's Nursing Diagnosis Reference Manual (2023, 12th edition): $79.99
  • A Manual of Laboratory and Diagnostic Tests (Fischbach and Fischbach, 2022, 11th edition): $82.99
I am hoping to buy these second-hand, or even rent if possible. Again, any little bit of help you provide is, without a doubt, the greatest gift I could ever receive. Thank you for thinking of helping me!
