Dollar Bay playground updates & additions

Significant progress has been made since we started this fundraising campaign in 2022 and there is still some work to be completed. We are still grateful for donations towards these purchases.

What has been done:

A new basketball court has been constructed. New sidewalks surround the perimeter of the play areas. Artificial turf has been added beneath the play structure, swings, octoball play area, and a new soccer field has been completed. Over this next week final work will be completed and the playground will be reopened for students.

How did this happen:

The PTO together with the DB-TC Administration and School Board support were able to purchase materials towards the upgrades.

The School was awarded a Copper Shores Grant to construct a new basketball course.

The PTO was awarded a Portage Health Auxiliary Grant to purchase materials to construct the octoball play area and a drop shot.

We could not have done this without:

A tremendous amount of volunteers stepped up investing their time and energy into making these upgrades. We are forever grateful for them taking action. We've had to pinch ourselves as the upgrades are a dream come true.

We will still be accepting donations that will be put towards the purchases we have not yet made to complete the outdoor space.

The DB-TC Area School PTO is fundraising to improve the school playground. The playground has not had a significant investment in over twenty years. Considering that it is the only playground within five miles, the playground updates will benefit all the children in the DB-TC school system and those living in the community. The PTO has pledged $20,000 toward revamping the playground. We have been conducting fundraisers at the school and making strides towards our goal, but we need additional funding to help get this project completed. With your help, we can make it happen!

 

What is the plan? As you can see in the diagram, we will have a new octagon ball pit installed near the garden space. A multipurpose grass field will also be landscaped behind the swings, covering the existing sandy area. Our goal would also be to include freestanding fitness stations. The most significant component of the revamping project is a new featured play structure. We have collaborated with the school district to fund this portion of the project. The school has pledged financially and has sought a grant to fund this significant investment. The new expanded feature structure will be added to the existing playground structure. This part of the project includes the addition of a balance beam within the area of the PreK playground.

 

If the goal is not met or the grant is not received, we will begin with projects we can finance until we can complete our fundraising. All money raised will be used toward playground improvements.
