"Anna" the Service Dog for Garrett
Donation protected
On my birthday, November 24, 2014, I went in on my day off to work on a high voltage job. Somehow the switchgear we were working on was reenergized and I was hit with 13,800 volts. I almost didn't make it. In the weeks that followed and through multiple surgeries, I ultimately lost my left hand and lower left arm and now deal with PTSD on a regular basis.
This goes back farther than one year though, becuase in 2000, my dad and I were in a vehicle accident that did serious damage to the both of us and took his left arm as well. When my high-voltage accident occured, it brought all of the past back to the present and has definitely changed my life. PTSD is not something I would wish on anyone, but it is a reality and it is something that I see God is using in my life for good.
My next step is to get a service dog (Anna (like from Frozen), due to be born in the next two weeks) that will be trained to help with PTSD. The process for training a service dog is a long and expensive one and is not something that our insurance will not cover - but it's definitely something I need and my doctors agree.
Once Anna is born we will be responsible to raise her for the first eight months in a very specific way and then both she and I will be having to go through training.
Our GoFundMe funds will go to help offset the costs associated with purchasing, raising and training a service dog. There are also modifications that will need to be done to our house and vehicles to accomodate a trained service dog. It's going to be a process, but we know that this is the next step in this incredible journey.
Thank you so much!
