Diversity At The Table

Donation protected
Diversity At The Table (DATT) is a community program that was created in July 2014 to inform the community about the intersections between gender, race, class, and sexuality and how it relates to social justice issues and academia. This is done through interactive activities and workshops and conversations centered around controversial issues. We feel it is important to learn diversity because it allows us to deconstruct our own biases, learn about our privileges, and co-exist and interact with people we encounter daily. We understand how difficult it is to have uncomfortable conversations about race, gender, class, and sexuality, so providing a safe space at the table where poeple can express themselves without fear of not being validated helps to create less hostility around the conversations.

We're raising money to continue offering workshops, activities, and discussions in a safe environment and space for the community. We plan to expand DATT so that eventually, we'll be able to work inside of school to reach people at a younger age. Some of the things we're looking for funding for goes as followed:

Tshirts: We'd like to provide Tshirts to all the members of DATT. This is also a way to promote the organization in a fashionable way.
Reading With DATT: We're currently in the process of contacting elementary school so we can go into them a couple times out the month to read to them books that are diverse. We need funds in order to buy the books and offer them to the children.
2 Year Anniversary Celebration: We're coming up on our second year and it's important that we take that time to celebrate some of the success of the members throughout this year. I like to recognize the people who have helped this organization be so successful. As far as planning, we're going to be looking into venues, food, entertainment, gifts/to go bags, and decorations.

This means a lot to DATT because diversity is a concept that we cannot escape from. We want to assure that people are learning about themselves and learning how to interact with people who are not like them so we can all exist in this society, and progress together, equally.

We're thankful for any amount of donations. Nothing is too small and everything will be appreciated.
