Dexter needs an insulin pump
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Steph and I’m the mum of a beautiful little 5 year old named Dexter. Dex is autistic (level 2) which we have known and adapted to since he was 2 years old. He is the sweetest, train-loving, polite and funny little guy you will ever meet.
We have just endured the worst week of our lives, as our little angel was hospitalised with blood sugar levels of 42mmol (normal range is 4-8) and diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, a life threatening, autoimmune disease that will now be a part of our lives indefinitely.
As his parents, our priority is getting him the best care and giving him the best life we can. An insulin pump for Dex will mean we don’t have to inject him 4 times per day with insulin. It is difficult to help Dex to understand what is going on and he already has very particular eating habits due to his ASD. A pump would free his life up to enjoy eating the way he likes to and to prevent the trauma of multiple injections each day.
Pumps are currently only covered for those with high level private health insurance in Australia, or those with an income so low it would not support the current cost of living.
As a family, we are grieving our old life with our children and doing our very best each day to keep Dex safe.
Any and all donations, messages of support and love will be greatly valued at this time.
Thank you x
