Devoted son, friend, brother...Nic needs our help

Donation protected
Meet Nicholas, a 13-year-old rock climber who loves the outdoors,
excels in his academics, and is blessed with strong social skills. He
is devoted to his younger sister Eliza and his mom, Bonnie, and Dad,
Jason, feel blessed to be his parents.

On June 12, Nic had a horrific bicycle accident. He was wearing his
helmet, but his bicycle broke and Nic crashed. He is now quadriplegic
and unable to breathe on his own. He is bummed to still be in the
hospital, he so wanted to attend his first day of school. What he did,
instead, was to make a video to let everyone at school know about his
situation. His principal showed it to all students, teachers, and
staff during the first day “ShowCase” at the Vancouver School for Arts
& Academics in Vancouver, Washington.

Nic’s friend Brian says it was the only part of the ShowCase that had
everyone’s complete attention. “No one was playing with their phones
or anything!” Here is Nic's message to his school: https://youtu.be/HIscV6SUuOI

To suffer a tragedy of this magnitude and be able to craft and deliver
a message like Nicholas did reflects his optimistic attitude, not only
about his situation but also about his hopes and dreams for the
future.

What is crystal clear about Nic’s future is that he will require a
lifetime of 24/7 nursing and family support. Bonnie just finished her
Master’s in Teaching and will soon be teaching grade school. Jason has
a good job with health insurance, but the list of ALL essential needs
to care for Nicholas extend beyond the scope of what health insurance
covers, including basic home renovations (a new entryway with ramp, an
accessible first floor bathroom and bedroom), specialized equipment
such as a ventilator, a properly sized Van, EyeGaze computer, and a
mouth-driven wheelchair. Add to that list post hospitalization rehab
for his spinal cord injury and other related equipment and the amount
quickly becomes staggering.

Nicholas has a deep appreciation and gratitude for all people that
enter his life, so we were encouraged to create this GoFundMe Page to
raise funds in support of Nicholas’ extraordinary medical needs,
assistive technology, his ability to live at home, and his future
education. The family recently received a wonderful gift of $10,000
from a relative. Now, it is up to the rest of us…those who know and
love Nicholas and those who are simply inspired by his story…. Https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/nicholasfarmer
Our goal is $100,000. Thank you and God
Bless You.
