Destiny's Fight Against Cancer

Donation protected

My husband and I know that many of you have followed us throughout our journey. I am very uncomfortable being in need and even more uncomfortable asking for help. It is not a boat we prefer to be in but we do realize we have to know when to ask for help. The doctors have given us a 4-6 month roadmap of long hospitalizations and I have temporarily stopped working for the duration of her chemotherapy cycles. This means that financially, I have been unable to fully support my family. Because of the recent month long hospitalization, we have also been financially supported by Jay fund donation for our mortgage, car payment, and electricity bills for the month of May. Our friends, coworkers and family members have been kind enough to lend a hand but I do not want to exhaust their resources. We will need your help.

We have been told that Destiny will be needing a bone marrow transplant for her cure. We have applied for a secondary medical insurance but the procedure itself is very expensive and we have recently been informed that our benefits do not cover all of our medical expenses. Our goal is to raise enough money for:
1. The transplant procedure
2. A donor drive

In two weeks we will find out whether or not one of our immediate family members is a match for Destiny. Desmond is the best candidate for her. Because of Desmond's age and size, we have been asked to carefully consider his role in this process because the recovery time after a bone marrow harvest is a month long and there may be multiple extractions. Not only will I need to be with Destiny, but I also need to be a pillar of support for my baby boy, Desmond who will be spending some time in the hospital as well. We have a very unique circumstance and timing is very critical for us to have enough bone marrow to save her life within the next 3 months. She needs this bone marrow transplant very soon and because it takes time to process, I want to go ahead and raise awareness of our need now to see if we can raise enough money for us to not only be able to pay all of our expenses but also for us to prepare to mobilize for a donor drive.

One last thing. Destiny comes from a family who are considered minorities. Generally speaking, our ethnic background presents some limitations because we have a smaller pool of donors with regards to her perfect match. In other words, if you are African American, Asian or mixed as both, you are very important to us right now. You are a likely, potential match for my baby girl in the event that we are not. In  her case, because she is multiracial, it is going to take a lot more effort on our end to search for a donor. Destiny needs you and my family needs you. We need to raise money to host a donor drive in Jacksonville so that we can reach out to more people. If you are interested or know someone who is interested, please message me with your phone number and I will give you a call. Please keep this in mind and carefully consider helping her with this battle against leukemia. Please visit bethematch.org for more information on how to be a donor. We appreciate your time and prayers. Thank you so much.

Some helpful information:

 Be The Match
Increase her chances!  All it takes is a cheek swab and we can find out if you are a match. These samples and registration can take 8 weeks to process. Please carefully consider our timeline and help give Destiny a strong fighting chance!
