Defense Funds for Police Brutality Victim

On Thursday August 19th, 2021 Braxton Emery and his dog Ruger were both gunned down by three Gooding County Police Deputy’s, in the small town of Wendell, Idaho. These three officers fired a total of 26 rounds. Braxton suffered 3 gunshot wounds. The first grazed the side of his head and top of his ear, the next took off about ¾ of his right ring finger, and finally the third shot was a through and through around the base of his left thumb shattering his thumb bone. Ruger suffered from two gunshot wounds and due to the deputies refusing to check on him or even call Braxton's dad to come get him sadly passed away. Braxton who was unarmed and had put his hands in the air and shouted out “DO NOT SHOOT I AM UNARMED” prior to the deputies opening fire on him. Braxton is accused of “ramming police vehicles”.

One officer was injured due to the officer shooting through his own windshield, which resulted in the officer getting glass in his own eye.

We, his family, do not believe the deputy’s account of the incident. We are also aware the media was given miss information in order to incriminate Braxton for another crime which the sheriff's department was unable to find the suspect. We believe the truth will come out and Braxton will be exonerated. However Braxton is going to have a long road ahead defending himself against these criminal charges.

We also know that the recovery from his injuries inflicted on him at the hands of the police are going to be expensive and life long. Braxton was shot a total of 3 times. He has no medical insurance and due to the injuries sustained at the hands of these deputies, and will never have the full use of his hands again. By the Grace of God, Braxton is alive. But Ruger his dog, his best friend is gone forever. Braxton was unarmed and had put his hands up and yelled “DON'T SHOOT I AM UNARMED” before the police began shooting at him. Which the officers dash cam footage supports.

The day of the shooting we the family were never even notified by law enforcement of the incident at all even, one of Braxton’s family members just happens to be watching the news that day and saw the initial report on tv. Multiple family members tried to contact the sheriffs department to find out Braxton’s state but received nothing other than he had been life flighted. We the family then rushed to St Alphonsus in Boise where Braxton had been taken. Once we arrived and the following 2-3 days after the Sheriff's department and its deputies made things impossible for the family to get ANY information on Braxton’s health status, going as far as to have the family removed by Boise City Police Department from the hospital grounds. When we, the family, asked the hospital personnel for an advocate or a social worker, they refused as well. The sheriff’s department has made false statements to the media and has twisted two separate non related incidents together, to make it seem as though Braxton was armed. When in fact he was NOT ARMED and the sheriffs department did not clarify to the media that he was not armed to make it look like they were justified for firing their weapons.

On Sunday August 22nd, 2021 Braxton was released from the hospital and taken to Gooding County jail, where he was placed in a jail cell with open wounds and susceptible to infections and superbugs like MRSA. We believe that Braxton was in no condition to leave the hospital that soon. He was in no condition to be out of a hospital bed. He cannot care for himself on a daily basis, Yet he is left to do so. Needless to say we are very concerned about his recovery from these injuries, without proper care and follow up. Scary when the people that inflicted these injuries on you are your captors and your only hope for proper medical care.

The following Monday august 23rd, 2021, a few of Braxton’s family members and his fiance went to Gooding county courthouse to attend his arraignment. The Judge couldn't even find the WARRANT for the felony probation violation that led to him being gunned down by the deputies in the first place. NO CHARGES WERE FILED, against Braxton at that time so he was just being held for the probation violation which they didn’t even have the warrant for.

We feel like this was done intentionally to sabotage and waste people's time and money, and also cruel and unusual to affect Braxton’s mental state. This is unacceptable and concerns us once more that his captors want to inflict as much mental anguish as possible on Braxton. We all must remember that our constitution states that people are “ innocent until proven guilty, and have a right to due process” We believe that this was an unlawful shooting by police, use of excessive force, abuse of power and now cover up .

Please help if you can and all proceeds raised from this fund will go to Braxtons legal defense and medical rehabilitation. Any proceeds that remain will be returned to those who donated.
