Help Dayton Recover After a Life-Changing Motorcycle Accident
On April 27, Dayton’s life changed forever. He was involved in a devastating motorcycle accident with a car on West Coast Road near his home in Sooke, BC. Dayton was airlifted to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and, at one point, was given only a 3% chance of survival.
His heart and lungs were punctured by broken ribs, causing cardiac arrest. Emergency surgeons performed a rare, life-saving procedure—opening his chest, stitching his heart, and manually restarting it. Thanks to their quick thinking and determination, Dayton survived.
But the injuries were extensive. To save his life, doctors had to amputate Dayton’s right leg below the knee. His right arm suffered a severe degloving injury and has undergone multiple surgeries to preserve function, with more still to come.
He also sustained a skull fracture and a cervical spine fracture and remains in a neck brace. Complications from the trauma caused his kidneys to fail, and he is currently on dialysis. Despite everything, his lungs are healing, his chest tubes have been removed, and his spirit remains strong.
Dayton was in a coma for six days and spent 15 days in the ICU. He is now continuing his recovery in hospital, facing a long and difficult road ahead—but he is here, and he is fighting.
How You Can Help
Dayton will need ongoing physical, emotional, and financial support during his recovery. His family, who lives in Alberta, has traveled to be by his side, adding further unexpected expenses. From medical equipment to home modifications, rehabilitation, travel, and lost income, the financial burden is immense.
Any contribution—no matter the size—will help ease the pressure on Dayton and his family as they navigate this new reality. Your support means the world and is a vital part of Dayton’s healing journey.
Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and continued positive thoughts.
Update: Onward to Recovery and Rehabilitation
We wanted to share a quick update on Dayton’s journey—he’s been making steady progress, and every small step feels like a huge victory. This past week brought two major milestones: his neck collar has been removed, giving him more mobility (and finally some decent sleep!), and dialysis was a success—his port has officially been removed.
With these big wins behind him, Dayton is now entering the next phase: recovery and rehabilitation. He may be moving to Victoria General Hospital as early as today, where he'll begin the hard work of rebuilding strength and adapting to the changes in his body.
As many of you know, Dayton is fiercely independent. Despite the challenges, he’s determined to do as much as he can on his own. Recovery isn't just about mobility after his amputation—he still has no function in his right arm and recently had surgical repair on his left hand, which adds another layer to his journey.
And yet, his strength is truly inspiring. He’s already transferring himself from bed to wheelchair using only his left leg and the working fingers on his left hand—then moving around using his foot. Watching his determination in action is nothing short of incredible.
Thank you all for your continued support. Your kindness and generosity are helping make this long road just a little easier.
