Sophia was born with two holes in her heart. In 1975 she was one of the first babies to have open heart surgery and the defects were repaired at that time. The heart lung machine however caused there to be a lack of oxygen to her extremities and she has struggled with extreme pronation in her feet since that time. Over the years this has caused pain, bone degeneration and arthritis that has finally become unbearable for her. She had a total hip replacement in 2012, a total ankle reconstruction on her left foot last May and this October she will have her right foot and ankle totally reconstructed.
Our experience over the last year of her recovering from the left ankle surgery has made us realize how much help we really needed and need for this next surgery.
Thankfully, Sophia is insured very well however insurance does not cover alternative therapies, transportation, hotels, food, Dan’s time off from work and an assistant for us for a year, to help with all the work that Sophia will not be able to do on a daily basis with the house and with Isabelle
It is very difficult to ask for help, especially financial, but after a lot of encouragement and strong suggestion from our loved ones and because of our realizations with our needs from the last surgery, we decided to put this out there and accept any and all assistance offered to us.
We will also be setting up a meal train for the first couple weeks once we are home from the hospital and will put that link on here as well.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story. We are sending to all our friends and family knowing many cannot contribute financially but wanted everyone to know what is coming up for us and hoping you could keep us in your thoughts.
We love and appreciate you all SO very much
Daniel, Elisabeth and Sophia
