Coburg RSL Band Night Fundraiser
Donation protected
No pokies, no frills, just good honest wood paneling and hand-painted signs.
As featured on page 11 of the Moreland Leader 23 November 2015 and in the Herald Sun 24 October 2014 , the Coburg RSL is a non-profit community-run venue at 323 Sydney Road Coburg. Since May 2014, the club has run a monthly community Band Night in support of small, emerging &/or independent acts of all ages. We are an accessible venue for performance acts at all stages of their development. We have attracted local acts just building up their first set as well as long-standing and inter-state acts. The aim of the Coburg RSL Band Night is to tap into the incredibly rich seam of musical & other artistic talent in our corner of the world and to provide an affordable, family-friendly entertainment option for locals. When we first started, the night ws MC’d by the inimitable local icon Mrs Barb Wire , and we hope to welcome her back in 2016 ... if we can get the budget together for next year to pay her and all of the bands a guaranteed minimum payment, because ... well, they are all worth it!
Operating from community-owned clubrooms which have not changed much since 1964 the Coburg RSL is one of a small number of RSL Clubs operating without gaming machines, or 'pokies', on the premises. In order to survive, the club relies on an active member base, the support of the local community and hire of the venue to ensure its survival. The Band Night series has been an innovative way of raising awareness of the club in the community, whilst having a heap of fun on out on the Coburg-town!
In order to ensure that these nights are accessible to all, we keep costs low and include free food with entry. There is something special about the Coburg RSL Band Night, something that keeps on giving ... and now we need your help! We'd like to gather together a little nest-egg budget to fund an expansion of the Band Night in 2016. This is what we are after:
$2000 - New PA
$500 - Lighting upgrade
$3000 - Band & MC payment guarantees
$1000 - PR & Coordination
$3000 - Social Enterprise Catering contract
One of the goals for our fundraiser is to increase membership at this jewel of our community. As a member of the RSL you become a community owner of the venue with voting rights on how it is governed into the future. You also receive numerous local and national benefits, such as discounts at local traders, reciprochal membership rights at all Australian RSL Clubs and member's prices at the already ridiculously inexpensive Coburg RSL bar -- everyday! Please consider a donation to the Coburg RSL Band Night and make the place your local!
In exchange for your generosity, you will get our undying grattitude of course! In addition to this, you will also receive the following thank you gifts in return:
$10 = Free entry to the Band Night of your choice
$25 = 3x free entries to the Band Nights of your choice
$50 = 6x free entries to Band Nights of your choice
$75 = Free entry to all Band Night Events in 2016
$100 = One year's Coburg RSL Membership* and free entry to all Band Night Events in 2016
$200 = Two year's Coburg RSL Membership* and free entry to all Band Night Events in 2016 and 2017
*A Club Membership Form will be sent to you and your application must be submitted to the Coburg RSL Board as per the Club's Rules.
