Help Micke Fight FAP (colon cancer)

Donation protected

Mickelluh has always shown signs of being sick in some sort of way so when Rachael, his mom, was diagnosed with Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP) when he was 5 months old, she began worrying that he also had the same disease. Mickes parents tried for six years to get someone to listen to thier concerns that Micke may possibly also be inflicted with FAP, but NO ONE listened. They were told he was too young and thier concerns were irrelevant.  It wasnt until they visited the UAB Children’s Hospital in Alabama that someone listened. They arranged for Micke to have a colonoscopy, and sure enough, the Denis's 6 year old boy had polyps and those polyps had signs of adenomas. This discovery would begin years of doctors visits for Micke and more procedures than any boys body should have to go through. He has fought and continues to fight but the diseaseis aggressive and the families insurance is not willing to cover ANY of the procedures in Ohio necessary to give him a fighting chance this go round. Rachael, Mickes mother, recently graduated from NWFSC with her Emergency Medical Technician Certification and has had to put off taking a job due to Mickes health. She's having difficulty covering the nearly one hour trips back and forth to the hospital in Pensacola for all of the doctors appointments. Between oncology, GI and now Surgery. Now with a possible trip to Colombus OH for a chance of a surgery to rid of these adenomas and prevent the Whipple surgery for a while longer, the family has no way to cover the added expenses to cover the trip or stay once there. The family is desperately in need of prayers & money for medical trips & incurred expences.
On her last update Mickes mom Rachael wrote "The next step will be to try to do this by endoscopic procedure where they'd use something to "burn" the adenomas off of his duodenum (which unfortunately has risks). Our last resort woud be an extremely invasive surgery that will reconstruct Mickes insides (commonly referred to as a "Whipple Procedure". The incision would be horizontal under the ribs, taking out half to three quarters of his pancreas, part of his bile duct, his whole duodenum, gall bladder, as well as a small part of his stomach all while trying to avoid even coming close to the major artery supplying his liver. The doctors will then have to put everything back together in different orders. Its a lengthy surgery, minimal 4+ hours with a hospital recovery for an 3-4+ weeks and home recovery for at least 4-6 months once released, possibly up to a year depending on how his organs regain function. He will never be the same and the consequences of not having the needed procedures can be far worse than we know. We will exhaust ALL other measures before heading in this direction. Through all of the worry we are still trying to figure out a way to fund this trip. It is not easy for myself or his father. We need to go to Ohio for the endoscopic surgery before even thinking about the other one. The major surgery would be at Sacred Heart in Pensacola but as of now our insurance will NOT cover the procedure."
Please help Mickes family to cover these expenses.  As thier friend I've watched them struggle for years to do everything in thier power to give Micke the quality of life he deserves.  Its out of my own concern and love for Micke that I create this page to help his family, please join me in supporting Rachael, Travis, and Mickes loving grandparents who are in the process of selling thier house to move down here and assist with Micke.  Raise Mickelluh and his family up in your prayers and please donate what you can and spread the word so that we can help Micke fight a battle no one should ever have to fight.
I am adding some websites that can be read about his conditions. The first is the information about the Familial Adenomatous Polyposis.

The second is about the Whipple surgery. It is a video.
