Hi, my name is Sachin, and I am one of the regular volunteers at Care4Calais in Northern France. I've been volunteering with C4C since July 2023, and have just returned from my 10th trip in Calais, having now spent 3 months total there.
When I arrived at C4C two weeks ago, I was tasked with repairing some of the Wahl hairdressing clippers as they were not working on site. They were pulling peoples hair and not actually cutting at all! What I later discovered was that the internal motors were broken in two of the clippers, rendering them useless. With just 3 clippers working, I managed to fix two other broken ones, but sadly this is not a permanent solution and these clippers will need to be replaced soon.
But why does this matter? Well many of the refugees we meet in Calais & Dunkirk have not had access to a fresh haircut sometimes in years, something which many of us take for granted. Self confidence for people is so important, and I've seen first hand just how much something simple like a haircut can do for someone when living in such dire conditions.
I'm calling out to everyone in my network to help make the new clippers a reality! Every pound raised will go to purchasing new clippers, and any left over will go to purchasing hairdressing scissors as these are also an in demand item which constantly need replacing.
