I'm Alejandro and I want to raise at least £1000 to support Vida Cristiana Church's School for children of the slums of La Ceiba, Honduras, by taking on a 17 mile hike.
The children in La Ceiba live in extreme poverty, and their parents (or more often, single mums or grandmothers) can't afford shoes or a uniform to put them in school, so they are forced to work, or are left on the streets. If they come to school, the meal that they receive may be their only meal that day.
Vida Cristiana church has a basic school building with aluminium roof, and one Christian teacher from the church, who sometimes goes without pay, but continues to serve out of love for these children.
All the children have dreams; Sandra (age 5) wants to be a teacher; Jesslin (5) wants to become a doctor; Dilan (5) wants to be a Pilot; Lorena (5) wants to be able to help her grandma when she grows up.
THE CHALLENGE
To raise money, I will take on a hiking challenge- a 17 mile walk through the Monsel Trail, Peak District, aiming to complete the circuit in 8 hours. I hope that you will back me in this challenge and enable more children to attend the school.
FINANCIAL NEEDS
- To keep a child in school, it costs £25 a month (uniform, shoes, rucksack, books, daily meal)
- Teacher's salary- (£407 a month is minimum wage)
- New roof for the school building.
- Updated electrics, some windows, a new door and better toilet.
Thank you!
