Chance’s Top Surgery Funding

Note: My dad (David John) is the beneficiary as he will be managing the finances surrounding this fundraiser! 

 

Hey everyone! My name’s Chance (he/him), I’m 17 and I am a trans guy from Australia who is looking to get top surgery in the near future to greatly ease the extreme gender dysphoria I feel. I have opened this go fund me as a way to raise funds for the surgery.

I’ve opened this go fund me with a certain urgency. For the past 3 months my mental health has rapidly declined and I’m finding myself incredibly anxious and miserable just about everyday as a result of the extreme amounts of gender dysphoria I feel. Not only is it highly distressing and anxiety-inducing, it has greatly affected many aspects of my life, particularly my social life, my school life and my hobbies.

 

These days I’ve become so upset as a result of my dysphoria that I’ve stopped going out with friends, breakdowns have disrupted my studying greatly and staying in my room has become a big part of my daily routine. It also is unfortunate for me that I really like lifting weights at the gym and playing soccer, but due to my dysphoria and discomfort with my body, exercising has become a chore. I also had to give up a lot of opportunities because of how distressed I feel about my body, namely giving up joining soccer academy which I’m very upset about, and doing ‘normal’ activities with friends such as sleepovers, swimming at the beach, etc.

 

However, I am very hopeful in my pursuit of surgery as I absolutely refuse to spend my last year of high school, or any more time as depressed as I’ve been for the past few months. Currently I have a surgeon organised and am looking into a psychiatrist to provide the assessment for me. Since top surgery isn’t covered by medicare (some costs are, but not the actual surgery), raising funds to be able to afford it is so crucial to me as this surgery would be lifesaving.

I came out about 3 years ago and am now about 1 year on testosterone. I’m so thankful for the treatment I’ve been receiving as it has helped ease some of my dysphoria, however the dysphoria I feel about my body is soul-crushing. But more than that, I just want my life to return to being a normal teenage guy who likes writing and soccer a little too much (maybe there is still time for me to join soccer academy)! As I said, I refuse to sit back and be miserable, I want to choose happiness.

 

Apart from feeling comfortable in my own self, getting this surgery would make my life so much more convenient and I would finally be able to feel normal without limiting myself to being outside for 8 hours a day due to binding, which isn’t a good solution long-term as I could develop health problems from it if not done properly or excessively.

The costs involved in this surgery is approximately $12,000 (AUD), and any amount donated is so greatly appreciated! Each donation will help me so much in affording this surgery and will allow me to have a future to look forward to!
