My name is Ginger Howard, I am 17 years old and I am a junior at Redwood High School in Larkspur, CA. I started a Non-profit called Chains4Change in which I provide bicycles to children as a way of transportation so that they can attend school and get an education. The school I have partnered with is called Instituto Mixto de Education Coopertiva Nocturna.
This school is in a small remote town in Guatemala. It's a night school and most if not all of their students work during the day and attend school at night. The specific 11 students that I am helping, work from 8am-4pm, most in the fields which is exhausting work, and then they walk for about an hour each to attend school from 5-10pm. With access to bikes these kids could attend school at a higher rate and cut their amount of time it takes to get to school to 1/4 of the time it takes to walk.
It is proven that education is the key to getting children and families out of poverty. Education creates better job opportunities that pay much better, and education opens the door to many resources and other opportunities that families in poverty lack. If you join me in helping get kids to school you will make a huge difference in many peoples lives.
100% of your donations will go directly to the children in the form of a bike, helmet, bike lock, and a light.
I have made several trips to Guatemala in search of the right schools and the students. In January 2024, I will be going back to Guatemala to purchase, build and distribute bikes. I would like for you to meet the students:
