Celebrate Olivia's Birthday with the Gift of Help and Home

It's our friend's birthday! Which is great news for those of us who love them (yay celebrating our friends!), but this year, not so much great news for them.

Thing is, our friend has had a really hard year. On top of it being an especially hard time to be queer and disabled and non-male and peace-loving and people-loving in America, they've had a series of setbacks and challenges, including natural, interpersonal, and financial disasters. None of this is made easier by the fact that their ever-worsening severely painful health condition renders them completely unable to function or work (read: earn money) three weeks out of every four. In short, the transits have been BAD, and our friend is facing this birthday bummed and poorAF.

The last few years, my approach to shitty disabled birthdays has been to throw presents at it.

But Olivia and I agreed that what they need more than a sparkly bodysuit is actually just cold, hard cash. So this year, we're throwing money at it.

In particular, money to help replace their floor that was completely destroyed in a flood earlier this year. Is this the sexiest birthday present? Maybe not. But is it sexy to help our friend get a place to sleep other than a living room with no door? Sure the fuck is.

The goal of $4,200 is set at the amount it would take to fully replace the floor in the house they're supposed to be living in. But of course, anything above that would not be wasted. They have so many expenses they can't cover right now, that if we go over $4,200, that means our friend can fix their glasses. Get needed medical care. Maybe spend a month or two not having to panic about money.

Of course, we know money is tight for everyone right now. Truly any contribution helps, both as community care but also just as a gesture of love and validation. It is so easy to feel invisible when you live at the intersection of so many marginalized identities. Even $1 says "you're not invisible to me."

Let's help celebrate our friend, and raise the roof --- errr... replace the floor --- in honor of their gorgeous existence!
