YA'AT'EEH ABINI
The Canyon de Chelly 55K is the only Navajo owned and operated ultra-marathon on Navajo land. The race takes place entirely in Canyon de Chelly, one of the most significant spiritual locations to Navajo people.
The race starts by signal from the birth of a new day, the rise of the sun over the canyon rim, and celebrates the traditional values of Navajo distance running by running as a celebration of life, running as a form of prayer and learning to use the sport as a mentor to better ourselves.
All profits from the race to local Native American runners. Jodi and I will be running the Canyon de Chelly ultra-marathon this fall and we're using this once-in-a-lifetime experience to help support our generous Navajo hosts. A handful of runners have committed to this additional support and your contribution will help us maximize the positive impact the race brings to the young Navajo runners of Chinle.
