This is the story of 6-year-old Callie Proteau
Callie is my 6 year old niece who was born September 1st 2018. This little girl has always been full of life and can brighten any room she walks into! She’s smart, spunky, beautiful and bright, the absolute BEST big sister to her 2 year old baby sister, Parker
Sweet Callie’s fun of life has unfortunately and unexpectedly taken a turn for the worst as she is now battling cancer.
As brave as she is, her fun-loving self has hit a tremendous obstacle, Callie was taken to the hospital for reoccurring tummy troubles during the month of October 2024. After numerous tests, she was admitted into the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital in Saskatoon, SK. Callie has since been diagnosed with
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most common type of cancer in children. It affects certain cells in the immune system, called B cells and T cells. ALL usually affects B cells in children. B-cell ALL makes Callie more likely to get infections, because she doesn’t have the protection of those B cells. The disease starts in the bone marrow, which is the spongy center of bones where new blood cells grow. The leukemia cells grow very fast and crowd the bone marrow, so the bone marrow has trouble making enough normal cells. Our brave girl has already undergone numerous lumbar taps in her spine-removing the diseased bone marrow and inputting extra units of chemo in addition to her regular chemotherapy she is already receiving. The cancer cells have traveled to our sweet Callie’s right kidney, liver and spleen, these organs have grown larger because of this, and her tummy now, is very swollen and painful.
Callie is receiving weekly chemotherapy to treat the disease. Some children may need a stem cell transplant, too…which is just another reason for us to be doing this fundraiser- as stem cell transplants are not done in Saskatchewan.
Callie will have to be taken to another province for this to happen and it is not cheap.
Callie has an army behind her, her family and friends ready to fight along side every battle she faces along the way, but in order for the some of the battles to take place- there is a financial stress that weighs on Callie and her family.
We are asking everyone to pray and keep Callie and her family in their thoughts & prayers!
Please note that all proceeds will be sent to myself, Amanda Keays and be forwarded on to the grandparents to assist with Callies medical bills.
*If you wish to help our sweet Cal-Gal and her family through these rough times, please contribute whatever amount you can! We thank you for your generosity & kindness! Whatever amount you choose- Thank You!
Anything we can do to at least help ease the financial pain of the medical aspect of this gut wrenching, heartache would be so much appreciated!
