Bring Carlos Home: A Man of Faith Unjustly Detained

Last Month, our dear friend and community leader, Carlos Quispe, did what he was supposed to do. He showed up for a standard hearing for his asylum case in Annandale, accompanied by his lawyer. But in a shocking turn of events, moments after stepping out of the courtroom, he was put in shackles and taken away by ICE. Our community is heartbroken and in disbelief. We are now in an urgent fight to bring him back to his family and the community he serves so faithfully.

To understand the profound injustice of this, you need to know that Carlos did everything right. He came to the United States legally to seek asylum. He was permitted to enter, given a case number, and he began building a life. He got a job, hired an immigration lawyer, and dedicated himself to serving others.

At his hearing, a judge inexplicably dismissed his case without reason or explanation—a decision that stunned his own lawyer. Immediately following this, he was detained. Now, this man of God, this pillar of our community, sits in a detention center, separated from his loved ones.

Who Is Carlos Quispe?
For those who don't know him, Carlos is the embodiment of compassion, hard work, and transformation. Many of us first met him in the parking lot of a 7-11 in Herndon in February 2024. From those first street-side prayers, he began a journey of faith that has inspired us all.

He started attending church every single Sunday, and his commitment was unwavering. Before he had his driver's license, we would pick him up. He was always so punctual, he would call an hour ahead just to make sure we wouldn’t forget him.

He wasn't just a recipient of help; he quickly became a giver. Carlos poured his heart into our street ministry, setting up tables, serving food, and cleaning up afterward. He was so enthusiastic to learn how to make coffee and be one of the first to arrive to help in the connection room. When he finally got his own car, his service only deepened. He began delivering food, clothes, and backpacks to those in need, sometimes handling the distribution all by himself. His actions inspired other men to begin serving and transform their own lives. His good heart and leadership were so evident that our Street Ministry group chose him as our new street ministry leader.

Beyond the church, Carlos was committed to building a life here. He attended English classes every Monday and Wednesday and was so proud of his progress on Duolingo. He is a loving father and grandfather who spent every day off and any free moment he had caring for his grandson.

His Unwavering Faith and Our Urgent Mission
Carlos is currently being held in a detention center. Even there, his spirit of service continues. We’ve heard he is attending services and reading the Bible in Spanish to others, giving them hope. In a recent call, he told us how difficult it is because he doesn’t have his reading glasses with him. Through it all, he expressed gratitude for his church family and asked for prayers, reminding us to accept God’s will, “because He knows better.” He has become even grateful for this time to further get to read the Word of God and share it with the fellow detainees.

God has not left Carlos. He loves Carlos, and if you are reading this, know God loves you too and has not left you. In the midst of everything, God is calling you closer to believe Jesus has died for our sins and has taken on our debt. He paid the cost and then gave the ultimate gift in the Holy Spirit to comfort and make us new - full of life. In the midst of darkest, Carlos has new life.

Carlos now has an opportunity to appeal this unjust decision and make bond, but he cannot do it alone. While he is detained, he cannot work, and his family is left without their provider. The legal battle ahead is an uphill fight.

How You Can Help
We are rallying behind this incredible man of God and his family to give them a fighting chance. All funds raised will go directly to three critical areas:

  • Urgent Legal Fees: To empower his lawyer to fight this appeal and challenge an unjust system.

  • Bond Payment: To pay his bond so he can return to his family and community while he fights his case.

  • Family Support: To help with rent, bills, and basic living costs for his family, whose main provider has been taken from them. Our church will help ensure all their needs are met with these funds.

Your donation, no matter the size, will be a powerful statement that Carlos is a valued and loved member of our community. He is not just a case number; he is a father, a grandfather, a leader, and a friend.

Please also consider sharing this story with your friends, family, and social networks. The more people who know about Carlos's story, the stronger our voice becomes.

Thank you for your prayers, your support, and your generosity. Let's bring Carlos home.
