Brandon's Legacy

While Brandon has paid with his own life and has now lost his long hard fought battle against heroin addiction. His family still struggles for answers. The same questions arise, why? How? He was doing so good! Yes, he was doing well. But the constant reminders of cravings, triggers, past incidents with the law, never let him live in peace. For almost 7 years, we've fought this disease. I can tell you from experience that it is not an easy task and rarely ends well. AA and NA has millions of participants and also a great program for some. Only 2 percent of people in recovery succeed out of over 2 million members.
Our son's poor decision making due to his weakened mental state caused by drugs. His constant dealing with the judicial system who only knows to lock them up in jail. This...This under the guise of keeping society safe, knowing the harm they've ever done was to themselves. These truths were a detriment to our son.
The lack of treatment centers and the affordability are considerable in our parish and elsewhere in the USA. While you know , there are over 23 millions addicts in America of all social gender, race, economical status suffering from the disease. Clearly, there is work to be done. I wish there was more help provided for addicts, wether it be treatment or reinsertion to society. To create awareness. It is now my mission. I ask of you to be generous, together we can empty our privatized jails and really begin to reinsert our loved ones into society as the human beings that they are and not like habitual crimimals.
